The Hidden Career Paths into Product Development

From state school student to cracked product developer, learn the unconventional routes that bypass traditional barriers

The 3 Must-Have Skills that Actually Get You Hired

Learn which technical skills employers desperately need but universities rarely teach - and how to develop them fast

Why this topic matters

Are you stuck in a job that doesn't use your engineering potential? Watching less qualified people get jobs and promotions promoted because they have "previous experience". In this session, you'll discover exactly how to bridge that gap and position yourself as the engineer companies are desperate to hire - whether you're a recent grad, career changer, or technician ready to level up.

You'll learn from

Cris Sion

R&D Design Engineer @ ANDE | Founder of Additive Engineering | Cal Poly '20

From leading R&D efforts at cutting-edge Additive Manufacturing start-up companies to founding his own product development firm, Cris has helped dozens of engineers launch successful careers.

His journey spans advanced manufacturing (CNC, MIM, AM), consumer product development, and biotech - giving him deep insight into what skills actually matter across industries.

Having experienced the theory-to-practice gap firsthand, Cris is passionate about helping engineers skip the painful learning curve and accelerate their careers through practical, hands-on education.

Nimeesh Rahate

Product Engineer at Teal Bio | Northeastern MS '19

Nimeesh's journey from electronics engineering to mechanical product development proves that strategic pivots are possible with the right approach.

After completing his Master's in Engineering Management at Northeastern, he leveraged co-op experience at Desktop Metal (3D printing systems), and personal projects to build product development expertise.

Now at Teal Bio, he designs and develops complex biomedical devices, applying everything from rapid prototyping to DFM principles to Vendor Management and QC.

As a student in our previous cohort, Nimeesh saw firsthand how practical skills and portfolio development can transform careers. Now he is volunteering as a peer mentor for Cohort 2 to help others in their journey.

His experience navigating the transition from electronics to mechanical engineering makes him the perfect guide for engineers looking to pivot.
